Holiday add on's

Hi.. I'm wondering if anyone has any travel agent background and advise me..
My mother and friend booked and paid a deposit on a holiday for next may.. I liked the idea of it and added myself to the party. The cost pp was £375 and that was what I was told too when they rang me for my deposit.. we have all paid £75 deposit each... they oringinally had booked a double room with a max of 3 occupants and thomas cook was obviously adding me into their room...
My friend would like to add to the party now so we rang them to ask if we could add her on... we were told that the room was full and if she was to be added on it would cost her and myself £398 now instead of £375. The holiday is still coming up on their search page as £372.. a few pounds cheaper, but they want to charge much more?
I asked them as I have not yet signed any contracts with them if I could transfer my deposit over to a new booking for the same holiday with my friend and in a room of our own.. they wont hear of it and said as i have signed nothing means nothing... Is this right???
