Oven not heating up properly

Lately my oven (about 8 years old now) seems to take a while to warm up and food takes longer then normal to cooks and sometimes isn't cooked as well as what is should be (top may be well done but inside still a bit uncooked). What's likely to be wrong with it and roughly how much will it cost to repair, or will it be a new one needed?

Unfortunately I am no expert, but I always have a go at stuff to save a quid.
Seems to be a thermostat perhaps. If you can get hold of an oven thermometer you can check the temp against the dial and see if they are the same.
If it's fan assisted, is the fan working?
How many heating elements does the oven have? Are they all working? I had a similar problem with an oven with 3 elements ( top, back and bottom ) 2 went out on me.
You will probably get better advice, but check teh yellow pages and see if there is a repair place that does free call outs. I found one for my fridge, No repair, no fee.
Once he had fixed the fridge, I could easily have done the work, but unless you can diagnose the problem in the first place........ welll. that's just it...NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
My element broke the otehr day, got a new one on ebay for £15. Better than a new oven at £500 which is what the wife wanted.HKP

Cheers, it's not fan assisted (don't think so anyway) but does have an element at the top and bottom and may be one of those. I've got a friend who might know a bit more so maybe I can get him to have a look for me.2p off is still 2p off!0

mine had a top and bottom element, the top one you could see as it makes part of the grill, the bottom one heats the oven for normal cooking. This blew on mine and you could tell by the fact that it did not feel hot at the bottom of the oven when it was turned on.
cost me about £30 for a new element, was'nt the hardest job in the world to fit itEx forum ambassador

I've replaced an element in my oven. I found it was a relatively easy job, and all for under £30. I had a top and bottom element on mine also. Make sure you know which one has gone before ordering (you should be able to tell by the warmth at the top or bottom).
I used http://www.elementman.co.uk/ to buy the part. I ordered in the afternoon, and the element was delivered the next morning. I thought they were a very good company to deal with. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?
