Shipping Plants?

I'm an avid ebayer, and normally its only clothes and odds and ends. But I've grown a load of plants this year. Far too many for my garden (planted loads of seeds just incase they didn't grow).
Now, I've seen people on ebay selling plants, not the professionals that is, just Joe Public. I don't have any where near enough to do a car boot sale.
I'd like to know if anyone has any ideas on how to package and post plants safely. As the last thing I want is a lovely plant in the picture, and a broken dying one to turn up at the new owners house.
All ideas welcome.
Thanks Laura

bit cheeky but can you ask the sellers of plants how they will be packaging them as you don't want to received them damaged? this will be better if you can ask in a different ID to the one you'll be selling under0

I bought some recently and they came in jiffy bags, with cardboard selotaped around the growth area and more selotape around the top of the pot to stop the dirt falling out.0

Thats a brilliant idea! Thank you, I'll have a go0

I bought a load of plants last year, and the taller ones were packed in wet compost in the bottom half of a plastic lemonade bottle, and the whole thing wrapped in damp newspaper and thin plastic. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

Why don't you buy just a cheapy one to see how it is packaged.
I bought 3 plants that were in the original small square plant pots with a sort of small carry case (specifically for plants) and cardboard wrapped around in a jiffy bag...sorry doesn't sound very goodAngel

I've received ones that used damp newspaper folded a few times to make a long length about 4 inches wide. These were then twisted and wrapped around the top of the pot and foliage. Bendy foliage was coiled around to make it more compact. It would be more difficult if the stem could easily break - the bottle idea seems a good one for these. The paper on top of the pot around the stem is important to stop the soil falling out.
The whole thing was wrapped round quite tightly with bubble wrap. As with most things stopping things from moving about in transit is important to avoid damage.0
