Just as a warning, I was in the post office the other week and someone was posting something special delivery. The woman behind the counted asked "it doesn't contain anything like glass or ceramics does it"

Apparently special delivery insurance doesn't cover glass, ceramics and crystal etc. I wouldn't risk it if its worth a lot of money.

I would say collection only, but...

If you drive, then perhaps you could volunteer to deliver them yourself at a cost of say £10 if the buyer lives within a 30 mile radius.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I really only sell glass and china. I do wrap well , below are my statistics for the last 6 months:

Posted with Royal Mail-0 breakages out of approx 500 parcels
Sent by courier-"DHHell"-2 breakages(actually smashed to smithereens is a better description) out of 3 parcels sent.

I only ever use Royal Mail. I am not covered but based on my experience with them as opposed to couriers they are my best bet.
If its only 1 item though and you don't sell often you would be better asking for collection only.
    Good luck with it.

Thanks for the responses, all the replies have been useful. I am still in a quandary about it to be honest. I may sell one or two items first and see how that goes before I decide to part with the larger sets from my collection.
