voluntary visitor service?

Can anyone refer me to a voluntary body that can have someone visit my very elderly relative in a care home (west Fife in Scotland) and whom we can then phone to see how they are.

We live abroad and some arrangement needs to be put in place.

The local council may also have some insight into this as well

Most of the charities offer help to people living in their own homes but not to people in care homes. You may have to employ someone to do this for you.

It would be worth checking if the care home has its own volunteers group, some definitely do. Or contact local churches to see if they do any volunteer visiting of people in hospital/care homes. You might not always get the same volunteer though, and visits may not be very frequent. If you don't have power of attorney, a point to think about is whether your relative is able to give her agreement to the volunteer speaking to you about her.

If you don't already so so, you should use the Scottish Care Commission website to access the twice yearly inspection reports to check for any issues of concern in the care home.
