child tax credit do i have to tell them now

hi i have just got a rise in tax credit to 49 per week my oh has just been offerd 5 hour a week overtime this could be for 5 weeks or 12 months we really dont know

i have been on entilled to and if my oh takes this overtime our tax credit will go down to 14 per week 9 less a week then what we get with out the overtime

if he dose the overtime do i have to tell them now as our tax credit is bassed on last years earings

or do i tell them next year at our next review and if i do that and tell them next year will i have to back pay them any money what thay have overpaid
sorry for so many questions but im not sure what to do and dont want to phone tax credits up as i dont want them messing around with our money so any adivce would be good thanks

    Providing the 06/07 income is not more than £25,000 higher than the 05/06 income then your award will be paid on the basis of last yrs income, so you could wait until the end of thw yr to tell them .
    I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

    I'd let them know now so they at least have it on file. As stated above, if you income doesn't increase by £25k/more then your TC's probably wont change anyway.

    Does this overtime take him over 30 hours per week - if so then you need to say - so if regularly he does 29 hours, the extra hours is going to make a difference. If not you have to decide whether he will earn enough to take you over the limit, otherwise it won't make a difference

    As the others have said, with the new threshold being an increase of £25000, the only thing that really matters is if his increased hours take you over the 30hrs/week boundary as that could result in extra entitlement. If your income were to increase by more than £25000 I don't think you'd be worrying about tax credits.
