Skirting Board - fix then paint or other way round?

Did the guy run the profile out of mdf? being a joiner I would think unlikely so;
If you follow this this advice be sure to put the grain the way round that the board will bow into the wall...so assuming you screw the board it will stop any movement even if it wants to move. If you place wrong way round and screw only central you might find the board bowing out top and bottom.0
