to be told by a VERY unhelpful and stroppy guy that they probably wont sign it off now as its been 2 yrs.

My mum's extension hasn't been signed off and its been over 15 years. She's had regular visits from the inspector and its just been lack of funds to continue at a preferred pace.

Out of interest and sorry to hijack - didn't you have to provide the extension sign off in the HIP or are you allow to say you'll get it signed off prior to exchange?
  • G_M - because the entire chain wants to move before Christmas, chances are we will be exchanging and completing on the same day. So in terms of Sold - while the money isnt in the bank, the chain is complete and solicitors are being worked into the ground to get this through before Christmas.

bluefuzzybug - you are right, the sign off certificate can be provided before completion.

    UPDATE:
Thanks so much for all your advice. The Building Inspector (a friendly one) came round today, having only phoned him this morning and he has ok'd the work and will send our completion certificate to us within 1 week. It just goes to show that not all Building Inspectors are the same as the one I dealt with last weeki - thank goodness!!
So where are we at now? Well its down to the solicitors now to pull the rabbit out the bag and get this sorted for 3 weeks time.
I am a bit concerned and have posted of DFW as it would seem CCCS have doubts whether our credtors will accept low F&F offers to clear our debts - which means we have done all of this and will be no better off, other than we wont own a house or car!
There was me thinking that this decision would make our lives easier, more affordable and less stressful, but there is a risk we could be stuck withour debts for the rest of our lives because if they dont take a F&F from the proceeds of the house we will be paying them until the day we die.

  • Thank you.

Yes we are going to rent - and to be able to afford something we are relocating 160 miles away to an area that we can afford.
