HELP!! BT problems!

Three dys ago i asked for my BT line to be reconnect (ive just moved into a new flat) this is being done today! but last night i called to cancel it as i now dont need the line. they said they couldnt do this unless i paid up the contrack for the full 12 months. dont i get a 14 day cooling off period by law?? i need some advice please!
