I currently live in Wales but I have been accepted into a London University and therefore will become a resisdent there. Some people have mentioned to me that because I'm Welsh and going to study in England there are grants available for this? Does anyone know if this is true?

Depends what the system is in Wales. I don't know any details about the Welsh system but I do know that its your home local authority that does the assessment and your home local authority whose rules apply. So, I couldnt just go to Uni in Scotland to avoid tuition fees cos I'd be assessed under the English rules. Can you contact your LA education department for information? Or the student loans company has a website for basic queries.~A mind is a terrible thing to waste on housework~0

I don't think there's any special grants for Welsh students studying outside of Wales. I think the only "extra" grant available for being Welsh is if you were to study in the medium of Welsh in a Welsh University, and it's an extra £1,200-£1,500ish.
Have a look at http://www.studentfinancewales.co.uk for some info. But I'd get in touch with your Local Education Authority and find out what you may be entitled to. They'll send you an application pack with all the info you need. All the best with it.0 -

I think your talking about the Assembly Learning grant - this isn't restricted to you studying in the medium of Welsh. You just have to be Welsh (very loose criteria for this "have you ever sneezed in Wales seems to qualify you :rotfl: ) and studying in Wales. The site that gareth suggests will give you all the info regarding government help.
Have a look in your local library/ask students from your area about grants that ppl have set up i.e. there are many grants tied to villages left in wills that are for students who get to uni from that area. A few of my friends got something similar (but it is usually quite low)0 -

The Assembly learning grant is up to £2700 and the same as the grant available in England just with a different name! The grant I was referring to is definitely a Welsh Medium grant i.e. if you study any subject in the medium of Welsh. I don't speak Welsh all that good so I haven't looked into it in too much detail!0 -
there's also a grant for students from/at school in wales that want to go into NHS related degrees (such as medicine, physiotherapy etc) to study at universities in wales, but don't think there is anything for outside of wales - otherwise I WANT IT.0
