Help with talktalk line
Comments

has any one got any ideas?Hi
With all due respect to the Emma and the people on the talktalk forum part of my frustration is that the only way that I can get information from TalkTalk is to travel to the library and log in on the internet due to the dire second line/ network support.
So I give up I will wait til the 10th and see if it works, in the meantime given that my only LLU option is Talktalk can any one suggest another option for phone and broadband and how easy is it to leave talktalk and keep my phone number

jaycee42 why is TalkTalk the only LLU option? TalkTalk use the BT line, so BT must be an option.
Other potential options, depending on whether they cover your area, will be;
Virgin (via cable)
Sky (since they use the BT line, it might be worth checking if they cover your area)
Do you get a good mobile signal? If you do then you could use a mobile phone and mobile broadband.
As for leaving TalkTalk it should be easy enough, although if you are still under a contract there will be a penalty charge of £80 I think, and you can keep your number.0 -
The_wall,
Hi, the reason for the LLU is that is whenyou usually get a better bundled deal, and in a rural area I have no cable.
I am not currently in contract but looking at some suppliers they require a BT line but my line is classed as a TalkTalk line

John,
I think that you will find that you do have a BT line, it is just that you pay TalkTalk. The whole point of LLU was to enable any provider to provide a phone service, from the phone exchange to your house, if they so wished.
That means that no provider can stop you switching to another provider, so long as that provider offers a phone service from the phone exchange that you are connected to.
Go to (http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php) and enter your phone number. It should show which exchange you are connected to, and if you click on that it will show you details about that exchange, including all the LLU operators and whether or not they provide a service from that exchange. Be aware that Tiscali is part of TalkTalk.

Hi John,
Your line is still the same piece of copper that BT use to provide the service and it is still maintained by BT Openreach. The only difference is you are connected to TalkTalk equipment at the exchange rather than BT equipment. I can apreciate your frustration with the fault on your line but as Openreach are not providing TalkTalk with any further information until a specified date we can not provide any further updates at this time. As I have stated previously Openreach will have to wait for certain permisions before they can complete any dig work. This is outside outside of TalkTalk and BT Openreaches control.
If you want to change provider and you are out of contract with TalkTalk then you'll either need to return to BT on a return to donor or choose a provider that is capable of arranging for you to be re-connected to BTs network. As I stated earlier moving providers will not solve the problem with a break in an underground cable and the fault would need to be re-logged to BT Openreach for resolution.
Happypuppy, sorry if you are getting different answers from telephony support. Could you please let me know what exchange you are on so I can take a look at your issue. Also it may be worth starting a new thread so things don't get too confusing in this one.
Cheers
