I would say it is a bit harsh. I worked one day, only one day for Scotish Power in 2004 and then got sacked for being too ***king honest(the manager told me this) regardless that I signed up 4 customers, two of them were dual fuel. At that time the reps didn't use this tatic.
However, there are many salesmen like me out there, being honest to customers. I have never lied to customers and now making a good living for telling people what actual rates they are paying for and make a comparision with their current tariffs, if they can make savings, then sign them up, if not, I will leave, no more question ask!
I work as an energy consultant for several companies, so that I can always find the cheapest tariff for my customers. For example, I sign up some domestic customers for UW if they want to better organise their monthly spendings, and sign up some commercial customers to Eon or british Gas.
So, next time when you face a salesman, please give him a chance, he may be able to do some good to you!
of course, if he try to scum you, then tell him to leave straight away without delay!0
