Yes a simpleton I have been.
Only finished paying our morgage 3 months ago and "don't ask how" i can not find the deeds anywhere in the house.
I have searched the forum and there seems to be loads of people in the same boat (maybe not there fault though)
We haved searched everywhere and can't for the life of me understand how I have managed this.
Anyway could anyone tell me who to get in touch with first.
The morgage was with the Halifax but I guess they will not be who I need.
The forum search seemed to say that the deeds were not needed anymore but we must need something to say we own the property.
thx for looking.

Deeds are no longer required if you bought your house after 1983 ish. But you may like to pay £2.00 to obtain information about your property here:
