What you need is a basic bank account. You can opt for the Halifax Easycash which comes with a Visa Electron card or the Barclays Cash Card which comes with either a cash card or a Visa Debit card (your choice)
  • Co-Op also do a basic account (CashMinder I think it's called).

They do but the reason I didn't mention it is because their Visa Debit card is still recognised as an Electron in some place. With the two I quoted you know what you are getting.

Barclays Cash Card Account is better as only one ID is needed, and account details given on the same day. Some banks don't do this. The Barclays Cash Card account comes with a debit card automatically now.

If you don't like Barclays, other choices include Natwest Step Account and RBS Key Account.

I would avoid the Co-op Cashminder, HBOS Easycash Account, and the rest of the high street banks. The cards ain't as good as the others (i.e. either an Electron card, just a cash card, limited branch/counter usage, cash machine usage limited to that particular bank only, etc...).
  • Yorkshire BS cash transactor account, cashcard only.Accepts wages in and you can set up as many direct debits and standing orders as you like.
I have a deep burning indifference
