1pminute for cheap mobile calls no longer working?

I've just tried to make an outbound mobile call using the 1pminute 08444527030 number, and it says I can no longer call from that number and that I should dial 08717597030 which is 6p per minute now...what's going on?

Simple they have put the price up 1p.Cheap call suppliers are always tinkering with their prices, depending on how much they can buy the call time for.

Their price list shows its now 6p a minute. http://www.1pminute.co.uk/rates/UNITED%20KINGDOM.php

For those not aware whilst the access number provider is called 1p, calls to that 0844 access number cost approx 5p from a BT Landline plus connection charge.

..... and using an 0844 gateway mean that, apart from having to pay your call provider's connection charge (BT's is currently 9.05p), you will also start paying call charges before you have even started dialling your target number (you start paying after the 11th digit of the gateway number, before you have even dialled the leading 0 of the mobile you are calling).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Can you just speak in English please about what one call will cost me lol?

If it isn't really as cheap as it appears, then why is it even shown by the UK Call checker?

what IS the cheapest way to call mobiles from BT landline?

If you can't get onto Primus's Penny Mobile 2 CPS (I've not heard of anyone successfully doing so for some time) which would give you capped 20p for up to 20 minutes calls to UK mobiles, www.18185.co.uk is your best bet - using the 18185 prefix during the week and their freephone gateway number at weekends will mean you pay 5p connection and 6p/minute at all times. The connection charge is much less than BT's and the per minute cost is not much more than BT's standard rate (5.25p) for calling 01/02/03 numbers - but who pays that these days?

I'm not sure the calculations you've been giving are right:

I have a call on Nov 13 using 1pminute that lasted for 37m28s

    So: 0.05 x 37.28 = £1.86 (the actual call shows at £1.93)

If I were using 18185 (at 6p per minute) for the same time, then:

    0.06 x 37.28 = £2.23...

Now of course with the price rise, they would be the same price.

I base the 'your best bet' recommendation on the fact that you'd always have to pay for 'no reply' or failed calls using any gateway provider and avoiding that eventuality (and the inevitability of it happening sometimes) saves money.

I rarely make long calls to mobiles but, in the case of your 37 minute call, I hope I would have remembered to hang up and dial again just before 20 minutes was up and so would have paid a total of 40p for that call via Penny Mobile 2.
