Unauthorized Withdrawals from Credit Card

  • I have also fallen foul of this scam, my cc was debited on 7th nov for £53.86 and 14th for £54.
I rang Capital one and was told there was nothing they could do and that I need to ring this company and cancel, I did that today and was told only two payments had been taken and that it was cancelled now.
I asked capital one to refuse anymore payments but they refused, I said I would pay the card off and can they cancel the card straight away- I was told it takes 5 weeks to cancel my account and that they would pay any debits that come in.
Every payment comes with a different name- how do I get out of this mess?
Could Capital one be any less helpfull?

    Any advice welcome
    LBM- finally kicked in 16/12/08 @ [strike]£41,862 [/strike] £0.00/ DFD- 24/12/13 :D

theyre all the same people behind them, same tatics etc, i can think of one in the past week where they didnt receive goods and anothe rin the past 3-4 weeks with the same, it wasnt slating the op but a half arsed search would have found many relevant links and its true i op 99% chance of not getting a penny back, im not saying you dont deserve it back etc (well actually thats debateable also).

Im sorry if i came out harsh, i think this is more due to the briefness of my response than my attitude but as said your in for a hell of a fight, there's another thread about diet pills at the moments, same thing, then theirs the berries, teeth whiteners etc etc, the list goes on.

Issue with these cases is that in every instance the customer has agreed to allow them take this money, always unknowingly, not sue to deception but ignorance. I do believe this company should be bought down and morally they are evil, but legally they seem sound.

hope that better explains your dilemma and where i was coming from in my original post

information can be helpful no matter what, whether its wanted or well received is irrelevant, it was still helpful.

Thank you Hudson: If the companies concerned were 100% legal then they wouldn't need to keep changing their own and their product names. They wouldn't need to hide away their Terms and Conditions at the bottom of their adverts, nor would they lead people to believe they are being offered a fair 14/15 day trial. How many reputable companies' trial products can you think of where the date of order submission is counted as part of the 'fair' trial? I can't think of a single one. These companies don't intend you to have fair time to try their products, they don't want you to return them before the due date, they want money and that is all. Therefore, I'm pretty certain they are guilty of misleading advertising and/or unfair trading. In this respect I've reported the company with whom I had dealings to the Office of Fair Trading, along with all the names I can find that are connected with this unscrupulous organization. To date I've received one refund of £53 recovered by my card company who are now going after the postage and packing and £15 they and I maintain is 'unauthorized.' As I was lucky enough to receive no goods or services and no form of contact from any company, hopefully the OFT will take note; my card company is certainly working on my behalf. I doubt it's legal to take money and supply nothing or take money based on cancelled contracts.

@Olderbutnotwiser: You may have cancelled the original account you had but, if as I did, you click on "submit" to place an order for a Free Trial, by doing so you allegedly agree for your personal information to be passed throughout the many scores of so-called affiliates. You will have allegedly contracted to pay for subscriptions to all sorts of different things and it is these numerous smaller withdrawals you should watch for and place an official 'dispute' with your card company. I cancelled my credit card on the advice of the first rep to whom I spoke but the second informed me it will make no difference and any withdrawal attempts made on my old card will be redirected to the new. Some people have been driven to report their cards lost or stolen which stops all payments from that card but I couldn't possibly advise you to do that. In any event this type of action would merely delay the inevitable although perhaps it may go some way to detering these unscruplous companies. You really need to telephone each individual company that attempts to extract payment from your card and cancel each one. As there are so many, it seems a futile exercise, especially as I understand from others that many of the phone numbers given are no longer in operation.

your in for a long fight

99% chance of never seeing a penny again

search the forums in here you will see several from the same companies and advice on what to do

rather than starting a thread in future, do try to see if anybody else has posted with your problem, in your case there are several with dealings with the same company.

I'm pleased to say that my credit card company has refunded all the money taken from my account by these unprincipled so-and-sos. Persistence definitely pays off in these cases. It's taken a while for the CC company to conduct its investigation but the result is, so far, satisfactory. I'm monitoring my account online daily as I expect one of the hundreds of different domain names to pop up at any moment to take more money but so far, so good.

It's well known that the MSE forum search is, shall we say temperamental, to say the least and doesn't always come up with threads/posts that are relevant.
