Tesco Club Card Credit Card - Second card holder

Hello,
Too many "C"s in this post title!
Basically just after some advice. My wife and I have taken one of these out as we shop at Tesco weekly (in fact we live opposite it!) and though the extra points gained by using their card everywhere would be worth while.
I requested a second card for my wife, but we've noticed that her card number, expiry date and CVV2 are identical to mine. The only difference is the card holder name.
What I think is happening is my wife is trying to buy online with her's, but obviously with identical card numbers when she enters her name, this doesn't match with the name of the primary card holder - me.
I have never come across this before - the second card holder's card being identical.
Is this a mess up, or do Tesco have good reason for doing this?
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Matt

Little known fact - you can type the card holder name in as Billy Bob No Mates and it will authorise as long as all the other details are OK
EDIT: Unless the transaction is a "Referral" in which case the retailer will provide the card holder name as entered - in your case Tesco's (well, RBS') referrals department will know there is a second card holder and let the referral go through.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

I think my husbands Tesco credit card number is exactly the same as mine. (he's the secondary card holder). Never had any problems, and I think he's used his online.0

My wife's Egg Money is identical to mine (apart from the name).
Some card issuers do it this way. Others change the last two digits (our Amex for example). At the end of the day, it's the same account that is being charged.0
