Possible Auction Sabotage????

I sold an item about 3 hours ago for much more than i expected to get for it and for much more than it is actually worth.

There is only one other seller selling something similar to me. Though mine offers more than they do - oh and mine is all correctly spelt

My problem is the winning bidder only registered today has 0 feedback and according to goofbay hasnt bidded on any other items. I know there is a chance that it could have been someone browsing ebay who decided to join because the item caught their eye. Maybe i am just being overly suspicious?

The listing is for paypal only and they put there bid in only a few minutes before the end. Though they still havent paid.

I just have a horrible feeling that this is going to go terribly wrong and that it may have been done deliberatly to ruin my auction.

The other seller has already had one account NARU'd for shill bidding and they are now selling on the account they were using to shill bid in the first place

I really do hope im wrong and have to eat my words :rotfl: Just have a bad feeling about this one :(

Hmmmm a tricky one - you'll probably have to wait and give this new buyer a chance to pay...nothing wrong with you obtaining their contact details and giving them a call to "congratulate them on winning your auction and welcoming them to ebay! How will you be paying Sir/Madam?....etc" if as you suspect they're false - report the false details and ebay should NARU them.

I have this experience as well...

Did you state in your listing how soon the buyer is expected to complete payment?

Sometimes buyers with zero feedback are good buyers too, just wait for a while and see...

However, in your coming listing, perhaps you can state that buyers with zero feedback please email you before bidding or else you will just cancel their bids. This will hopefully reduce the chance of joy bidders.

no i didnt unfourtunatly as 99% of my buyers pay instantly with paypal.
it was actually my OH that put the auction up and i didnt check what terms he put in as i usually do request that those with zero feedback contact me first prior to bidding. so i suppose it was my fault for not checking it properly.

Im jusy hoping and praying that im wrong.

Check the buyers address details on https://www.royalmail.com to see if the address actually exists (if your buyer is your competitor in disguise he will probably have just wacked in any old address when registering). And I think 192.com or similar does name to address matching as well via electoral register.
If the address proves false (via royalmail site) report to ebay ,reclaim your fees and relist.

was the item a high value item like a mobile phone, camcorder or laptop? if so theres a high chance this is a scam. also was the buyer a uk buyer?

no it was a job lot of cds but it went for much much more than it was worth. the address is in dublin and it is a confirmed address by paypal and the same as the one on ebay.

im guessing i was just being overly suspicious, but i dont want to send them and then find them doing a chargeback through paypal especially as it is showing that i am inelligible for seller protection
