A friend of mine recently gave me a program, as i am meant to be 'good' with computers!, that he wants decoding, due it being in an encoded format.
The only problem is that it is a '.BIN' file and i do not have the programs that can decode it; does anyone out there know of any free programs that can decode the file?

Can you give us any more information about what the file is meant to be? 'BIN' could mean just about anything.
A 'bin' file is usually a binary file .. like compiled code. While there are programs that can reverse engineer the code (disassemblers) they are often either very expensive or are pretty weak.

I do not really know very much about the file, my computer is trying to automatically open it with StuffIt for Wondows 8.5, but this does not work becusae it is struggling to read the file.Never knock on death's door, ring the doorbell and run away ..... he hates that :mad:0

Isn't Stuffit one of those WinZip type programs? Can you give any more information about the file? Why does your mate want to know what is in it? What does he think is in it? .. try running a google on the file name it might tell you what it is.

You could use Daemon Tools https://www.daemon-tools.cc to mount the file onto a virtual drive in order to look into the .bin file. Alternativly, you could get a copy of ISObuster http://www.theupload.com/view.php?id=00040224 this is a freeware version that supports .bin files. .Bin support was removed for some reason in the newer version. Then use isobuster to look into the .bin file. You could then tell us what the files inside it are.

Edit: Beaten to it by secondsIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
Hi
Go to Isobuster, File, Open Image File, and select your Bin file. Right click the file, and click Extract but Filter only MPEG video files, you will then get an avi file, you can then decode this to either vcd/dvd etc.
Or if you have Alchol 120, this will burn bin files, free trial version.

You can download dvd films/programs/games in bin/cue format for windows. Its a very common format on the Newsgroups.
Is it a film/game? What exactly is it.
Also if it is a film VideoLan play bin/cue files.
PS Nero/Roxio will also burn bin/cue files.0 -
