Yo guys i have a peugeot 106 1994 XRD model 1360cc Diesel.
Got the usual common problem with the head gasket going but mines also cracked the piston liner so its easier and cheaper to get a new engine.

my question is will a 1.5L diesel engine from another 106 fit straight into my 1.4 (using same gearbox etc) or is the engine complety different? i just wanna drop the engine in and drive!
Ive found this site which tells you the engine types but its nonsence to me.
Any suggestions?

I realise that you have a 106 instead of a 306, but try the people at https://www.pug306.net. Really good site, lots of Peugeot experts who are all v.friendly.

My experience is that there can be vast difference between year on exact same product let alone different engine size.
Not so long ago had my 2ltr 405 diesel engine replaced, with another 2ltr 405 engine just a couple of years older. Mechanic had to completely strip replacement engine and put on all the bits form my old engine to get it to work again.

The 1.4 and 1.5 diesel are both TU engines and so you should be able to drop a 1.5 in with minimal hassle and yes you can use the same gearbox etc. The TU diesel was used in the 106, Citroen AX, Citroen Saxo and even the Rover Metro so you shouldn't have too much trouble picking one up
