0845 6853000

Today I received 2 telephone calls to my ex directory number from 0845 6853000, asking me to accept the charges from someone called Andrew. Luckily I don't know an Andrew so I just hung up. I googled this number and discovered other people receiving the same call, clearly a scam. The number is provided by Telstra Europe and I can't find an organisation which monitors their service.

Have now received BT bill and have been charged £2.96 plus vat for the reverse charge. How can this happen when I hung up and didn't accept the call?

Are you sure you didn't press a button?

I'm sorry to say, VAT on that £2.96 takes the total to £3.48.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

No I didn't press a button. The good news is I complained to BT and they're refunding the charge on my next bill.

  • I have received several calls from this number from unidentified people in a 'pub' type environment, after googling the number ended up here. So I rang BT and was advised that this is a genuine company that any one can access, they tried the excuse it could be a ' family member' ... 'kids' etc I explained it was disturbing to hear the words ' help' I was told I could unsubcribe from 0800 reverse which I did. You can unsubscribe for 1 month or 5 years, its all automated and it takes a couple of seconds call 0845 077 9000.

  • I received a call in the early hours last night which obviously woke me up! The message said I had a reverse charge call from Postman Pat! I couldn't get back to sleep which was bad enough, but I hope to goodness I don't get charged for this call, I hung up immediately. My 'phone number is ex-directory, how can things like this happen?

.It can hyappen as easily as a friend of yours knowing your number and is playing a joke on you after a night in the pub.

They are a reverse call company,NOT a scam company. You can even do reverese calls through 100 but then you have to speak to an operator and they would not accept 'postman pat' as they would know its a crank call but 0800 reverse is automated so you just say a name after the tone adn off the call goes.

Sorry if they woke you but being ex-directory does not stop someone who knows you and your number from ringing you.

    Hmmm. Seems they haven't stopped!

I just had a call from someone on this number. I had no idea who it was and the call rang off before I was able to answer. (Caller ID registered the number.) (Google is your friend to find its a common number mentioned!)

I too am registered on the prefered call service and ex directory.
