Hi guys

My mum just turned 60 this year. She doesn't like her clothes bought for her, doesn't wear make up, already has loads of jewellery, has all the music and dvd's she likes already...argh any ideas?

You say she has all the music that she likes, but has she got the new album by Susan Boyle? Obviously I appreciate it might not be her taste but it was the first thing I thought of...

Ha, she sounds exactly like my mum!! Are you sure we're not related???

I guess it depends on your budget - i tend to work on practical gifts as i really dont have the time to waste wandering around the shops worrying about what people might like!! I asked my mum a few yrs ago what she would like for Christmas - i got the standard response "i dont want anything, save your money". So that yr, i called her bluff and said, fine, if you dont tell me what you want then you wont get anything so dont complain on christmas day when you havent got anything.

She called on Christmas Eve and announced that shed like some perfume.....! lol

Ive got my mum a tv this yr - not v MSE i know but she really does need a new one and for the 1st time in ages, it'll be a surprise! :o)

What about perfume? flowers? a hamper with wine/food/toiletries she likes?
    A shopping gift card?

    What about a magazine subscription?
Or a 'to do' present - atrip to the theatre, a concert or similar
or membership to something - English Heritage, Woodland Trust, RSPB, National Trust, etc, etc.
A beauty treatment - manicure, facial, massage?

I've got fancy food that I'll be making into a food hamper - its all stuff that she wouldn't buy for herself but will definitely eat! It won't take up much space and will gradually disappear.

I've also run out of ideas for anything else and have a Mum that doesn't want/need anything. They're impossible!

How about a recipe scrapbook/organiser? Most mums have a drawerful of loose recipes cut out of magazines. I was looking for a present for someone who's a keen cook and came across some nice ones on Amazon, and ordered the one with the 3 cooks on the front. Cost about £11.
  • Im doing box for sisters with wrapping paper, tags, lots of different cards ive made (but you could buy sets) least that way she would be set for sending cards next year?
They also do nice birthday organiser sets where you can put everyone month and cards together.

Hi, the theatre tickets sound like a good idea. Unfortunately she's recently had treatment for breast cancer and had gall bladder removed so perfume, toiletries and foodie gifts are out, also why she doesn't cook so much now. Only music she likes is Beatles and she already has EVERYTHING they ever did!! I have already got mum and dad a photo calendar from vista print (free via ipoints, p&p only). But she does like a good show so I'll have a look see whats on in January
  • how about some luxurious bedding or a quaility thow or pashmina...the type of thing you wouldn't buy yourself.

Or Home Bargains are selling one for £3.99 - its a Hallmark one and has clear plastic wallets to put the recipes in.

They also do a recipe book type thing where you can write in your favourite recipes & I think it had some plastic wallets at the back for storing things in. Sorry info is a bit vague but didn't study it very long!
