Tracing an unkown account

My Mum alledgedly opened a bank account for my son in his name. I know she did this as she required his birth certificate to do so and then posted it back to me when she'd done it. She sadly passed away suddenly before I got a chance to ask her the details. I've tried in vain to trace the account through mylostaccount.org.uk as I have no idea what bank it was opened with. All of the replies from the BBA come back negative and as it's been two years now I'm losing any hope of ever finding it. We never found any paperwork relating to it after her death and nothing was ever traced during probate although this doesn't surprise me as that was a shambles. Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

  • If she opened an account in her name re the child it would have been in her name.
    Who dealt with Probate?
Ask them to check that there was no account designated in your child's name.
  • Thanks. I did ask the solicitor at the time but she never came back to me. I'm pretty sure that the account would have been in my son's name. I'll check with them again though.
