Plastering Advice please

apparently dot and dabbing would take longer as it would involve having to remove skirting boards etc, laying the plater board, then replacing any wood work on top...0

Hi - I thnk dampdaveski would agree that with sand / cement re-plastering to a full room you should take the skirting boards off, architraves and any timber grounds out of the wall and the rate of drying down for sand / cement full room re-plastering will be longer than for a waterproof grade insulated dry lining system.
In a kitchen sand and cement used as a replacement plaster is also a hard dense plaster that will be more prone to condensation than the original lime based plaster especially with a kitchen being classed as a 'wet' room and sand and cement being significantly less permeable than any original lime plaster.
There is now also a receommendation within the Building Regulations with regard to the insulating qualities of re-plastering systems when applied as a percentage of areas to rooms within such renovation work is being undertaken such that if you were doing the work under the guidance of a Building Control Officer they may flag up that they would be looking for improvements to the re-plastering specification to make the room warmer and not colder as it would be with sand and cement if the percentage of re-plasterig within the scope of those renovation works is sufficient to come under such rules.
Hope this helps - kindest regards, David Aldred Independent damp and timber surveyor0
