    I think we will have 5 people this year.

    Turkey
    sausage stuffing
    honey roasted parsnips
    roasted carrots
    sprouts (I might serve chestnuts with them)
    roast potatoes
    mashed potatoes
    cranberry and bread sauce
    gravy

    Christmas pudding with cream or custard

  • I have never 'done' a Christmas dinner yet! Just helped. We always go to to the in-laws. Just four of us for xmas day lunch, usually roast beef with all the trimmings. Father in law makes canapes for starters, never goes near the kichen apart from washing up all year then comandeers it for the whole of Christmas morning to make his canpes. Home-made christmas pud with home-made brandy butter and a big buffet on boxing day when OH brother and his wife come over.

    That sounds just like what I do - except that I am the only one who likes Christmas pudding so this year I might do something else. Last year I bought the Marks & Spencer Christmas pudding cheesecake and it was revolting - it was £10 and I took it back to the store because it was so vile and they gave me a refund! This year I may try and make something like Christmas pudding flavoured ice cream.

  • For the last few years it's just been the OH and me on Christmas day, as my FIL decided that he couldn't be bothered seeing family then, and told us straight out!

    We're not bothered, we've had a lovely time so far and haven't had to prop my MIL up after she's been drinking for most of the day (she only drinks on Christmas Day).

    We have

    Haunch of venison
    Sausages wrapped in bacon
    Shredded chilli sprouts
    Cauliflower cheese
    Roast potatoes
    Roast onions, carrots, beetroot and parnips ala Jamie

    All washed down with posh wine and followed by a sweet, but never the traditional pudding. All is made from scratch, and I love it!

    On Christmas Eve we celebrate a Danish Christmas (cos I is Danish), where my mum makes all the food which is:

    Roast loin of pork with crackling
    Boiled potatoes
    Caramelised potatoes
    Braised red cabbage
    Gravy

    Followed by Ris Alamande which is a cold rice pudding mixed with whipped cream and chopped almonds and served with raspberry coulis. Mmmmmmmmmm. And then we dance around the Christmas tree :rotfl:

    It's normally just us (two adults, two kids) and the cats. We do the family stuff on Boxing Day.

    We always have the same thing, because it's easy and we like it. My BIL is an ex butcher and years ago gave up trying to find presents for us all and started giving us a ham instead. Last year's weighed 25lbs. I could barely fit it in the oven and we were still eating ham in June, lol.

    Prawns, Mairi Rose sauce, smoked salmon, salad, brown bread and butter.
    Roast chicken, glazed ham, stuffing, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire puds, roast potatoes, sprouts, peas, glazed carrots & parsnips and a couple of gallons of gravy.

    Christmas pud with custard, ice cream AND squeezy cream for Hubby (!), Christmas pud and custard for me, Vienetta for the kids.

    I don't drink (meds) so Hubby just sticks to his usual beer.

    We have pretty much the same every year too.... A lentil soup starter, main - HUGE turkey from the local market cooked in advance as there are 16 of us and my cooker wont hold it all!! Roast potatoes, cauliflour cheese, potato croquettes, brussel sprouts with pancetta, carrots, pigs-in-blankets and stuffing for everyone else as I hate it. And shop bought gravy.... my one concession to an easy life :) Dessert is mums cheesecake or trifle and I buy a tiny xmas pudding for the 2 peeps that like it :)

    As the cook I get to drink champers as much as I want and my uncles do the washing up :):)

  • There's 16-18 of us every year. I have to set up tables in the lounge and dining room. We used to just eat in the lounge, but our new suite's too big to move, so we have to use both rooms now.

    I get the housework done and the tables set up and laid on Christmas Eve evening.

    We have some kind of fruit starter (melon with ginger or passionfruit sauce, something like that) French onion soup with a huge gruyere crouton, turkey with all the trimmings, including roast squash, sprouts, carrot & swede mash, stuffing, pigs in blankets, mash, roasties, braised red cabbage with apple, parsnips, chestnuts, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, gravy, then Christmas pudding, or sticky toffee pudding for those who prefer, and my amazing (if I say so myself!) rum sauce. Then cheese & biscuits, mince pies, coffee, mints and liqueurs.

    Been doing it for about 8 years now, and absolutely love it. It does cost us a fortune, though. And it's exhausting.

    I am a very lucky lady in that I shuttle between my two daughters houses from Christmas Eve until New Years day.but I do but them each a turkey crown ,usually from M&S plus I make big tins of sausage rolls and mince pies for each of them and the little one before Chritsmas all halp me to make the christmas crackers for the table decoration

    This year we will hopefully be in our new house for Xmas! And we may, or may not have DSS1 and DSS2 with us.

    DSS1 is a veggie, and DSS2 has just (within the last 24 hrs) been diagnosed as diabetic, so any help on that front would be more than welcome. How can I make a "traditional" Xmas dinner whilst catering to their specific dietary needs?

    I'd been thinking of the meal below, but this will now be subject to change!

    Breakfast:

    Pain au chocolat, bucks fizz

    Xmas dinner: (mid afternoon)

    No starter, its a rich enough meal as is

    Roast beef
    Gravy
    Yorkshire pudding
    clapshot (carrot and swede mash)
    roasties in goose fat
    sprouts
    sauteed savoy

    HM Xmas pudding with double cream

    Probably washed down with a white burgundy and some very nice Montecarlo red we picked up in Italy.

    Boxing day will be leftovers of the roast beef in HM bread

    At some point I'll roast a gammon joint, probably in coke with a toffee glaze.

    There'll also be mince pies made with the trex pastry (though with butter IYSWIM) and a Xmas cake.
