PP, Sorry but I have to disagree
It IS very old style.
It's all about us using (and learning new) our old style skills to live within a certain budget. This includes, cooking, cleaning, reusing, being inventive and creative, just as many of our mothers and grandmothers would have done automatically.
Its old fashioned housekeeping. If that isn't old style then I dont know what is.
Sorry, just my opinion:D0 -
Oh PenPen! You are one of my bestest, most favouritest posters on the board and I always seem to agree with your posts, but.....I also think that living within your means, and sticking to a (often tight) budget, is very OS. I agree with annie123 - I think OS skills are needed in order to live as carefully as possible within a budget.
I'm not concerned about where this thread should be - I have the deepest respect for all of the BGs and as many threads in the past have shown, it can be a difficult task and you are the ones who are at the receiving end of any upset - and I do agree that this is a challenge, but it is also as much about OS as it is about saving and (for some) being DFW.0 -
Can I join in please? Princess Dawnie
Totally new to this but aiming only to spend £4000 this year may go a bit off track but hoping not to. Also, hoping to stop smoking that will save me over £1000! Still live at home so budget shouldn't be that hard to keep but I do love clothes and partying:think: will just have to limit myself I think!

But it's about so much more than OSIt's about saving within the whole of your life; be that gardening, clipping coupons, motoring, clothes shopping, etc, etc.

There already is an Old Style "Living Within Your Means" challenge - this month's Grocery Challenge has just started
I've had a chat with nykmedia today about moving this thread again, and as I've explained, Board Guides can only move threads on their own board. If anyone wants this moved, I'm afraid I can't do it - you'll need to contact the BG of this board:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

Thanks for the reminder, I haven't taken part in this for ages. I need to keep the grocery spending down this month, both to keep in control of my Christmas spending and to get some practice for this challenge

Having finally taken the plunge after two years of clapping from the sidelines will it be ok Nyk if I don't do a set budget [husband will get really twitchy as it reminds him horribly of his Father and his attitude to money]. However, what I am proposing for myself is to take a kind of compact stance and aim to buy as little new as possible [except obviously food:D] and really use up, make do and mend approach combined with necessity is the mother of all invention approach. We grew some of own veggies last year, are now making our own wine and I've always done our own baking as much as possible.
Hope that's ok- if not please just put down again as a supporter. Thanks
Aril
