Claiming Back from Credit Cards in Ireland

Hi,
As a newbie to the whole forum thing - everywhere not just here - hope this is the way its done.
Can anyone advise as to whether section 75 applies in the Republic of Ireland (thats the bit outside of Northern Ireland, which is technically still UK)? When we click the link to their mastercard website it takes us to the UK - does this mean that the card is underwritten in the UK and that section 75 therefore applies?
Also the services that I paid for by credit card were taken by companies in Spain, does this make a difference - I know that two of the payments went to a company and its subsidiary that no longer exist and the other company is about to close its doors at the end of the month.
Can I claim back deposits paid by credit card on property abroad? For instance I paid 3000 Euro as a holding deposit on an off-plan property in Egypt - via a company in Spain (naming and shaming is a bit of an issue at present), I have since had no contact about this property and can find no information anywhere as to if it even exists - can I get that deposit back?
If anyone can help I would be eternally grateful
Lesley

The Consumer Credit Act is a UK law so won't apply in Ireland.0

Thanks for that, but I guess what I was asking is: What is the law in the republic of Ireland that is similar to section 75 in the UK. Someone said that they had heard of one which they thought was something 31? We have a consumer protection act here in Ireland but I can't find the section similar to section 75. Anybody know?0

You need to look at S42 of The Consumer Credit Act 1995 which provides the equivalent rights to S75 under the UK Act. You need to have tried to pursue the trader/retailer first, and can then make the claim against the creditor. You also need to be aware that this section does NOT apply to housing loans (by which I would expect they mean mortgages).
As far as I'm aware the recent decision where it was found that UK cards are still liable for purchases made outside the UK applies to cards issued in other EU territories as well, but don't quote me on that part.0
