DLA renewal

Options
Ok well i havent got to renew my claim for another 12months yet but i have had it on my mind and im a bit curious how it actualy works.

How long before my claim runs out will they send me the forms out? Are the forms to renew exatcly the same as the ones i filled in with the new claim?

I was awarded 1st time around, but it was a very stressfull time for me im really not looking forward to doing it all again.

Will they look at my previous claim and take that into consideration with the renewal? or will it litteraly be llike applying again from scratch.

A life/ indefinite award does not really mean that. You may be sent review forms at any point in the future. You should also inform the JCP if there is a change in your partner's care or mobility needs.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • 'Indefinite' does not mean 'for ever', it means that there has not been a time put upon it, but you can be called to re-apply at some point in the future.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • There seems to be some people now getting re-newals 3 months not 6 months before they are due,and yes some areas of the country are trialling new 4 page renewal forms, but there is some concern about these as they give little room to explain your problems.
Re:indefinite awards(which have replaced lifetime awards)after 12 months they can come back at anytime with a renewal, however in reallity only around 1% are done each year, and usually those where they might expect some improvement.
  • Re indefinite awards - I have this for my son (HRC and HRM). He was eight when it was awarded. I was told that he could be reassessed at any point that the DWP decide, but that it was unlikely before he reaches 16. I was also told that it is unusual to receive an indefinite award for a child.

Woodbine, thanks for the additional information about indefinite awards - very useful. My son has actually declined in some ways, and the gap between him and other children of the same age has widened considerably, even in the areas where he has shown improvement.
