  • My daughter wants her prom dress shortened and the remaining material made into a wrap for her shoulders - it will cost £36 for the full job. If she decided to have the dress shortened only, it would be £20.

Chris, I suggest you shop around for more quotes. Try your local paper, there are sometimes seamstresses that work from home and will alter your trousers for a much more reasonable amount.
  • Hi

I went for an interview after being made redundant from my previous job when the Company went bump. JCP advised me of the ADF to get a suit for the interview (previous job wore a uniform). There is a £300 limit and I was given a part of this after the advisor looked on the internet of the prices of suits (the vouchers are limited to a number of shops so you have to state at the time which shop you prefer). I chose Dotty P's it was either that or a shop -can't remember the name but I am too old to be shopping in there lol. The shop have to attach the receipt to the voucher and return it to the JCP and the clothes will have something on them to state they were paid for with a voucher.

I was chatting to the advisor and he said he could not believe the price of the women's clothes from the designated stores. I was really grateful for this but I would have been quite happy having a voucher to go to Primark!
;) The toast proposed at our wedding was for "health, wealth and happiness". Our family may not have the health and wealth but we make up for it with the happiness:D

Chris just ignore the idiot above.. ;)

This site is for helping people get the maximum benefits and grants they are entitled to,
and so if we are all entitled to an extra £300 to spend on a suit after being on jsa for 6months or 1year then theres no reason why we shouldnt all claim that full amount of cash.

It doesn't say anywhere that anyone is entitled to the whole £300, it says its the advisors discretion, read the posts properly!!! Its up to that amount, You can't "claim" the full amount....

I appreciate your suggestions but I regularly have to use the services of a tailor to alter clothes to fit me. Trousers are available in three lengths, short, regular and long.
Even when I buy short, I have to get six inches taken off the bottom, which alters the fit and then they have to be altered for width. Suit jackets are also too long in the sleeve...around four inches and you just cannot hack four inches off a jacket sleeve and expect it to fit and look good enough for an interview.

If I've got an interview, I'd rather not entrust alterations to a seamstress working from home, I'd rather use a professional tailor. And like all professional and skilled people, their services are expensive.

could you not just get suit trousers and a nice blouse/shirt ,im sure an employer wouldnt mind if you dnt wear a suit jacket ,i recently went to an interview .I wore primark trousers (bargain at £5) and i took them up myself as were far too long ,i wore a plain white shirt and a waistcoat over the top. there was no need to wear a suit jacket

Exactly. When my dad went for a job interview, he just wore a shirt and trousers. (already had these; so didn't need to get money for them from JCP)
