Removing prepayment meters!!

Moved into a property with two of these awfull prepayment meters. First flat so dont have a history with other company. Both meters were on southern electric after speaking they told me to wait 12 months then they would take them out FREE!! not telling me they do a credit check so, waited 12 months and then found out I was still stuck with them.

After alot of research EDF Energy, switch to them and then after 28 days with them, remove them FREE, no questions asked, no credit checks just what time was best for me!! On prepayment they are also very competative and very cheap on direct debit. Having mine removed next week. Just wanted people know that there is now a way to get rid of these money eating machines:money:.

If you want to stick ebigas are also very good

  • i actually find pp meters a good way of budgeting.
many people put next to nothing on the gas during summer and then have to pay as they use it in winter, which means putting alot in when it's cold.
in contrast i put £10 per week 52 weeks a year and this easily covers my usage,i never have to put more on in cold weather.
if i was to pay this monthly on dd it would equate to about £45pm which isn't bad.
we spend about the same for elec but this does include using tumble dryer and things for a family of five.
of course there are no debts being collected

We just switched to EDF mainly because as you say the will get rid of the prepayment meters once you've been with them a month no questions asked.

Ours are being removed next week, leaving us free to take up any discounted plan not previously available to us. Not to mention not having to relight the back boiler every time the gas runs out

Scottish Hydro said they would remove my meter free of charge

told them i was going to switch to them or EDF.. whoever change meter for free i will go with
In answer to your email asking about changing to Scottish Hydro, We are able to change a pre payment meter to an ordinary meter and this will be done free of charge for you.
We would have to get your supply over to us , which takes approximately 4-6 weeks. Then once we do this we will change the meter for you.
Please feel free to contact me back if you have any further questions or queries.

    and
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.
What I would suggest to do is, when you are in your new address to give us a call on 0800 117 116, and speak to one of my advisors there. As you are moving into the address we can get your supply over a lot quicker than the usual 4-6weeks. They will be able to get the ball rolling to get the supply across and as soon as that happens we will make an appointment to come and change your meter. Then, once we come to install the meter you can go online and apply to the Go Direct tariff at www.joinsouthernelectric.co.uk where you will be able to input your details and that will be changed automatically. If you do have any problems with the online application, you are more than welcome to call us back on the above number.
