Hello everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone had a method for home made Pot Noodles.
They can be quite expensive in the shops, and I thought there must be an easier method of making one up for yourself. So, has anyone tried to do them?

I've never thought of making them myself, but when I read your question intrigued me. My immediate thought was a sachet of instant soup and some 4 minute noodles (which I imagine is basically what pot noodle is?0

I think the noodles in Pot Noodles have a higher fat content that 4 minute noodles, hence why they soften by just being sat in hot water rather than simmering.
Think it might be difficult to re-create cheaply. Maybe an asian grocers might sell the correct noodles (soak rather than simmer)?0 -
Why would you want to make a homemade equivalent to pot noodles?
Is it for speed, nutrition, cost..??...There are far better things to eat in terms of nutrition and cost than pot noodles0 -
I use these 9p value type noodles, but not the stock powder sachet which is full of evil synthetic things. Usual basic recipe is one sliced up spring onion, one finely sliced mushroom, tablespoonful of sweetcorn and a tiny bit of shredded chicken or prawns, one cake of dried noodles, splash of soy sauce and/or a 1/4 teaspoon of Tom Yum paste or similar, boiling water to cover, stir, into the microwave for a minute, stir again, leave to sit for a couple of minutes. My kids love this and it's easy to make quickly after a cold afternoon walk or similar. And a lot cheaper than Pot Noodles if you just use up shreds of this and that out the fridge. You can add grated carrot, shreds of chilli, chilli flakes, normal fine sliced onion, shredded ham etc etc. TBH I'm not convinced that Pot Noodles can really be counted as food whereas the above can be reasonably healthy.
The asian greengrocer near me does sell noodles that do not need cooked, just add boiling water. and I've seen "straight to wok" noodles in tesco. Perhaps try these if you don't want to actually do more than add boiling water?Val.0 -
I would suggest using the 'straight to wok' noodles then adding flavourings - if you arent too fussy about additives there are some fairly decent cuppofsoup things out there. I also love bovril so would prob crumble a bovril cube in for beef flavour! i know i know - high salt content etc - but there is nothing nicer than the occasional (very occasional) cup of bovril on a freezing day! some of the asian sauces could be used (teriyaki, garlic and ginger, sweet chillie) shaken straight in. you used to be able to get peas which were instant - i keep thinking of them as surprise peas .....which makes me laugh..........have i got name right and can you still get them? if so you could add some of them. just a few ideas hun - but personally i hate pot noodles - i call them chemical factories and think they taste disgusting! but my sons loved them.0

mmmmmmmmmmm had this a these a few times and the other recipes, but i have been trying my own , i just had a beef and tomato easy to do , in one pot put 1 nest of noddles , 1/4 of a beef stock cube ,1 tsp veg bouillon powder (or 1/4 of veg stock cube), a couple slices of last night beef from the roast, 2 or 3 tablespoons of left over peas. then in the second pot , 100ml of left over gravy (or just what you have left and top up to 100ml with water) 2 tbp of tom ketchup , 1tbp of tom puree ,1 tbp of dark soy , couple of dashes of tapasco or alittle crushed chill or non if you dont like heat!! salt pepper. make as normal and you have a tasty beef and tom homemade pot noddle using the left overs from a sunday lunch0

here's a thread on HFWs noodles. I tried the curry ones and were deeply dissapointed:( - although i added more water.
I used basic tesco ten p noodles with my own flavourings rather than the sachet of doom!A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men :cool:

I buy egg noodles and stir fry them with veg, chicken and soy sauce yummy!
Above has good ideas, never thought of using the 9p noodles! Cheaper alternative to egg noodles mind.
