TV Licence charged twice

I brought a TV licence yesterday for my room in my halls and have been charged twice. Log on to online banking and there were two amounts of £142.50. Rang them up and they can't find me on their system. I asked for licence to be sent by email, and they say it takes a few days for the email to come and to ring back when I get the email. They also said that you should get a payment confermation (payed by debit card) straight after, but I haven't been sent one.

Don't worry, you're clearly right on this and evidence is in your bank records, so it will get sorted.
Have a word with your bank, maybe they can do something about extra charge?
Otherwise TV licensing will just have to sort it.
I have to say, in every dealing I have ever had with TV licensing (I have never had non-payment problems with them either), they have been complete b*stards in every way.
Just thought - I had something like this recently where a shop had a problem putting my card through and the amount was shown as going out twice on my online banking. Phoned the bank and they said one amount may 'disappear'. I don't really understand all the workings of it but it did and I was therefore only charged once as I should have been. It maaay be something like this but maybe have a word with your bank to see if they can see exactly what has happened from their side."All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." That's correct, you should have. It would have the transaction reference number(s). It's the same number as is displayed on the website when you complete the transaction. Did you make a note of it?

Just to give you an idea of timeframes, by looking back at my old emails from last year, I can see I got my notification that my TV license was available to view 2 days after setting up a direct debit online..0
