Finding risk free rate (Govt gilt rate)

I need the yearly risk free rate from 1999 to now using the UK gilt rate as a proxy.
I have been searching for ages now trying to find it but am not having much luck as there seem to be different government gilt maturities e.t.c
Any advice on where to get this figure easily or get an average for the last 10 years?

I would look at Treasury Bills.
These are 1, 3, or 6 month instruments issued with a zero coupon (nil interest rate)
They are issued by tender on a Friday, at a discount to par, which is where you will get your real yield.
The FT carries the tender results for each week.

or you can get them from the DMO
