Where to stay near Twickenham Stadium?

Am looking for advice on where to stay - have booked to see England play at Twickenham in May, am looking for advice on good/cheap places to stay (2 nights). I've looked at Travelodge - it says Kingston upon Thames is closest, anyone stayed there? Then it looks like Kew Bridge or Nr Heathrow - but some of them seem a fair distance from tube/train stations. Also thinking about traveling to the stadium - is it easy to access on tube etc? Any advice from people who have been/locals very welcome. thanks x

Feltham Travelodge is close. In fact its the closest in time. It is only one stop on the train. Takes 5 minutes to Twickenham and train runs regularly.
  • Whenever we've been up to Twickenham, we've always stayed in TL's in centre of London. That way we tend to do the whole London thing including Chinatown on the night time. There are always loads of tubes going back into town. BUT and it is a big but the queues to the tube station are always massive, however they do move quickish and by then you will probably have had a couple of lemonades and won't worry too much.
  • ok thanks for the info, will have a look at both

  • Kingston is maybe 30 min on the train to Twickenham, so a bit further than Feltham but it is really a very pretty area by the river and has a bit more going on the way of shops, restaurants and bars. Twickenham station is only a 5-10 min walk from the stadium.

There is a nice wee pub and hotel called the Popes Grotto near Strawberry Hill off Twickenham High Street, but I've no idea how much it is to stay.

More like 14 mins on the train. 30 mins on the bus maybe. I wouldn't stay in Feltham if you want to go out for the night and stumble home - theres not a lot there. Saying that it is fairly accessable and it does have regular trains that run late. There are also 24hr buses into Feltham so you will get home!

Richmond and Kingston both have bars and clubs and some decent restaurants. On rugby nights Twickenham is heaving and richmond is also really busy. Not as many rugby fans in Kingston tho. So take your pick!!

Let us know if you need any more info.

Richmond is very nice, Kingston is ok, Feltham is an utter hole in the ground.

Take your pick which you fancy.

Yep, Richmond would be my first choice too - to stay and for a night out. Wouldn't stay in Feltham at all. I'd rather pay more for elsewhere.

  • Hi there. There is a premier inn that is within brisk walking distance of the stadium at twickenham. It is on a main road that takes you straight there and has its own free parking for guests. Next door to the inn is a pub which also does food. i would say it may take you 10 to 15 minutes to walk from the hotel to the stadium. You just exit the hotel, turn left, walk straight up the road, then take the first major turning left to the stadium and follow the crowds. i have a link to the hotel for you here.
