My Dyson is not picking up very well any more. The brushbar is not rotating when in the operational position. I've checked the belt and it seems to be OK but I think there is another belt somewhere inside the soleplate. Does anyone know how to dismantle a Dyson or have any suggestions?.
It's well out of warranty by the way.

Ring Dyson support they used to give free advice and if worse comes to shove you can get a engineer out sometime at costs but reasonable prices and they will service it and replace parts for one off fee regardless of what needs doing
They really are brilliant for customer support0 -
go onto the dyson website, put your model no in and it will walk you through with pics how to check stuff and fix.
very easy to do anyway. ours has just blown up but it had not been sucking well for years (like a married woman really!)
the holey bit in the main bin is a big factor in the ability to suck stuff up. are your filters clean? You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.0 -
Its an unusual thing to see someone who hasn't stripped his dyson down at some point. I am half sure he made it this way to keep men (boys) happy. Brush won't rotate when its upright as it wouldn't need to. Bend it in to its hoovering position and tilt it over and see if its moving.
For sucking power, definitely giving everything a good clean and washing the filters makes a big, big difference.
If warranty has run out, there are loads of videos about showing you how to strip it down. Not much to them and nothing too lose.0 -
Mine lost suction due to the washable filter in the top of it clogging up.
Gave it a good wash & it regained most of its power.

I was skeptical, but in my case it worked.0 -
I've just stripped down my elderly DC05 as I was having the same problem - checked for blockages in the hose, cleaned out the filters and gave the whole thing a good clean. It's working so much better now!
Dysons are so well made and simple that it's actually quite a fun job taking them apart - you can't do that to most things these days!
Another good website is - http://www.sparesaver.com/help-and-support/dyson-section/0 -
First moneysaving effort of 2010 - just repaired my Dyson with the help of a youtube video!!!!
Well chuffed. :beer:0 -
I had the same symptoms on my DC04 last year and it was the clutch that was faulty. It cost about £35 I for a new one I think. The sparesaver website on sazza42's post shows how you can change it. Its a bit fiddly! and you need a torx screwdriver.0
