Once more with the faulty goods

Options
Hi all,
before I buy myself an AK47 I thought I would seek some advice from MSE. I bought a rowing machine from Powerhouse Direct for £209 in Sept. By Oct it had developed a number of serious faults. I contacted the retailer who refused to replace or repair the machine or refund my money. I wrote to them quoting The Sale of Goods Act. They did not reply. I have now wrote to my credit card company quoting The Consumer Credit Act. My question is this; if the credit card company refuse my refund or don't even reply what can I do? I am reluctant to go the small claims route because sometimes even after losing a decision companies will refuse to pay up. Is this my only option? Or is it worth writing to the money pages in the press? Thanks. Does anything work for longer than 10 minutes these days?

More detail regarding these "serious faults" might be helpful and reason did Powerhouse give for not offering to repair. Can we have the full story please?

    Sorry bout that.
First of all the heart/pulse monitor never worked despite me changing the batteries on the first day. Next, a part of the molding on the top of the machine broke allowing it to move up on every stroke. This movement is now forcing the front panels to open up above the main monitor. Then the main monitor stopped accurately counting strokes or strokes per minute, again despite me changing the batteries. Now one of the footrests has become loose and feels very insecure. Basically I can't use the machine, after ONE month.
Powerhouse offered to send another molding for me to fit, but because of all the other faults and the fact they could then blame me for any future problems, I refused. They even tried to blame me for the molding breaking by suggesting "you may have screwed it in too tight", ignoring the fact that that bit of the machine came pre-assembled. Thanks.

As well as writing to your credit card (which you have done), try phoning the manufacturer as well. They might care about their reputation and help you.
