are you saying to hook up the sensor lights to the cameras? are do you mean the PIRs actually on the cameras?
    thanks

The PIR's trigger the lights on. More expensive DVR's will have external triggers which will ramp up the record rate on the camera.
It's worth always having a background recording but you can detect these triggers and have a system which does pre-record (keeps several seconds of footage in a rolling buffer) so you see what happened just before your system triggered.

If you went with a VCR system, you could have hte PIR's trigger the VCR to start and stop recording.

Personally I wouldn't go for IP cameras again unless you are spending a fair bit of money.
There are converters which allow you to fit an anagloue camera and convert that to IP. They work out more expensive as it's two items to buy but you can pick and choose on the camera which is the most important part. That's the way to go IMHO if you really want IP.

I been looking at the DVR and camera kits in maplin today. What suprised me how big the BNC connectors are. Which means as the cable are in complete units any drilled holes need to be just bigger than the BNC connector (at least 15mm dia.). Or DAK anyway to get round this? as i wanted to fit a camera on a gable wall of the house, but did not want to drill the wire through the wall as that would spoil the living room, but route the cable via the front porch.
Plan was to consider try fitting this myself as electricians want £900+ just for 2 cameras and a DVR unit!

also seen this on ebay..which is much cheaper and seems like better cameras than Maplin kits..anyone had experience with this seller or recommend any reputable places?
