You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.

Argos sell a set of 6 stackable boxes for £9.99 in red/blue or silver. I have a couple of banana boxes I got from Asda which have lids and are really sturdy. They measure about 39cm by 59cm base and 18cm which means they fit under my bed.

Try this site. Look under Office you can see they are giving storage files away.
FREE better than paying for it. Get on the 55 bus go down Leabridge Rd,get off at Bakers Arms. there main office is in Hoe St. On the left.

Could you get free/no longer needed cardboard magazine files from your workplace or flatmates work place?

Shoeboxes are good for receipts, some big trainer boxes fit A4 size papers.

Savers do some nice storage boxes with lids from 99p

Wilkinsons do loads of storage from 99p

The best cheap storage boxes I've seen are from Tiger for £2 with lids, nice colour and a slot to label them, I bought some today, but having looked at their website, realise they've only opened one shop so far in Basingstoke

For something more permanent as your new place has less cupboards, I find the Wilkinsons plastic filing draw systems perfect for masses of A4 sheets @ £14.99 pretty sturdy, I use them every day and the draws slide in and out quite easily.

Or ask on Freecycle. You might even get some freestanding shelves if that would help.

For free storage look at supermarket stacking fruit and vegetable boxes. All shapes and sizes, easy to find one that suits. Some will take foolscap file hangers and act as a filing cabinet drawer.

I tend to use the pepper boxes as they have lids, convenient carrying slots and are easy to slide as they are not too interlocked when stacked.
Come in different colours so can be colour coded as to contents or painted to less offend the female of the species. ;)
