    Lease Extension info here: http://www.lease-advice.org/publications/documents/document.asp?item=8

    You are the leaseholder and the freeholder is asking that you use the formal process for extending the lease icluding getting info on what it will cost.

    The notice has to be served by you in the first instance because there's a qualifying 2-year ownership period, amongst other criteria, to satisfy. You don't have to complete the process - this can be assigned to the person who buys from you.

    And yes the freeholders have probably 'changed thier mind' as they don't want to be held to a figure which could not be passed on to a purchaser.
    Opinion, advice and information are different things. Don't be surprised if you receive all 3 in response. :D
