BT changing calling plan

I am on the BT weekend calling plan, this is a monthly contract. They have rung me a number of times trying to get me to upgrade to the evenings and weekends plan, I have so far resisted as I use my mobile for evening calls and didn’t want to end up on a longer contract. Last night they called again but this time they said it would be cheaper if I switched, I accepted the offer. I have since looked at the BT website and it appears the saving I have made is just the switch to paperless billing which I could have done on the old weekends calling plan without having to end up on a rolling contract. I want to cancel so I rang BT who said that there is nothing on their system to say that I had requested a change last night so I couldn’t cancel it. I am unsure if the person who rung last night was from BT or from another operator claiming to be working on behalf of BT, I didn’t take any names when they rung last night as I thought they were from BT (they may well have been).
I know I get a cooling off period under the DSRs, how do I invoke this? Does whoever rung me up have to write to me and tell me about the switch, can I cancel it once I get that?
I have certainly learnt my lesson, don’t sign up to anything on the phone without seeing all the details written down fully.
Thanks,
Simon

If it was BT you can cancel your order, free of charge, before they provide the service.

BT dont do monthly contracts do you mean that your 12/18 month minimum term had expired, and you were out of contract.
  • On top of the money your be saving by electing for online billing, you would save another 2.95p a month, because if you wanted inclusive E&W calls without taking out a rolling contract thats what BT would charge for them.

Why are speaking to people you don't want to speak to?

Tell them not to phone you again.

Don't blame BT for trying to make money.

Hi womble12345, after reading your post I can advise that we have 3rd party companies that work on behalf of BT. If you would like me to confirm your order, please email your BT details, forum username and query to btcare@bt.com and I will look into this for you.

And when you email BT ask them NEVER ever to phone you under any circumstances to do with sales, services or anything else not directly important to your account (eg a problem). And also not to pass your number to any organisation other than the law might permit.

I asked BT never to phone me 10 years ago and they never have since.
