Hiya - thanks in avance for any help
I have gas central heatng with a 5yr old boiler that does heating rads and water. I am about to fit a multifuel burner / stove.
If I get one with a backboilier - can i easily connect it to the central heating and use more of its output? can the boiler and the stove work together? so that the stove boosts the boiler which then uses less gas to heat the house?
How will the water get through the backboiler and gas boiler- will i need a pump?
How will the gas boiler treat the incoming hot water in the system - shut down?
what happens when the gas boiler is not on - will the water get through the system or just boil in the stove(?!)?
The stove and boiler are in different rooms - the stove is near a radiator though
cheers

If your gas boiler is utillising a pressurized system then its best left alone, a woodburner or any other boiler which uses solid fuels ideally needs an open vent to relieve any pressure build up due to overheating. A stand alone system whereby your woodburner/boiler will heat up your hot water tank and maybe a couple of rads would be more feasible, this would most likely involve adding a dual coil cylinder and depending on the burners output at least 1 or more rads with at least 1 rad heated by gravity and any others pumped.Norn Iron Club member No 3530

the only way you will save any money is by using the waste heat of the stove to pre heat the existing boiler inlet water.
you seem to be proposing substituting one boiler for another.
i dont see the point? unless you are burning free wood?
in that case dump the old boiler.Get some gorm.0
