Warranty Direct v's BMW Warranty?

  • Waste of money. Tell me, how many broken-down X3s do you see?

When I drive down the motorway, I see old bangers and French cars on the hard shoulder. Maybe the occasional Alfa. I've never seen a nearly-new BMW there.

Granted BMW are, in surveys done by lease companies on cars up to 3 years old, topping the reliability chart beating even the likes of Honda, Toyota and Mazda.
But they are complex cars and if anything goes wrong the bill can quickly hit the £2000 to £4000 range. DSC (traction control system) and the inevitable turbo diesel going pop (no manufacturer is imune to this) fall into this bracket and if it's a 6 cylinder diesel going pop £6000 to £9000.

I choose the peace of mind even knowing that I may well never claim on it.
  • Inevitable turbo failure? Mine is at 235,000 miles and doesn't appear to be heading towards an inevitable failure.

Warranty companies make a profit. They rely on scare tactics, and then try to get out of paying up.

The chances of a person ever needing to claim on their warranty, and being financially better off than they would be had they not purchased one, are vanishingly small.
