The sweet chilli sauce would be nice over rice. Maybe the same with the barbeque sauce. At least it's 2 nights meals. Is there anywhere you could get an invite to for tea? Then re-pay the favour once you've been paid :D

Well at least if your OH won't eat the carrots, they're all yours! You'll be a bit short on protein & vitamins for the rest of the week but it won't kill you.

Does this need to cover breakfast and lunch too? And when will you be able to shop on Friday?

    Shortbread or biscuits for breakfast

    Spaghetti with the cream cheese

Rice with the carrots and chilli sauce

Have a look down the back of the sofa and see if you can find a few odd coins and maybe find some veg (tinned or fresh - or even frozen if you're eating straight away) to add to the rice and carrots.

Uhm...I have a few carrots as well, but unsure as to wether or not the OH will eat those unless I can mask the taste in some way.

If you've really no more money, I'd be advising him that he'll be having carrots unless he can magic some other ingredients from somewhere

Grate the carrots, and cook them in the tiniest amount of water. Add the cream cheese, and I've just invented a new spaghetti sauce :T Do let us know how it turns out :D

Looks like it's going to be pasta with the cream cheese sauce one night, rice & sweet chilli/barbeque sauce another. You could make some shortbread its very simple.

    Shortbread

    • 9oz Plain Flour (I have used self raising in the past without too many problems if its all you've got)
    • 3oz Sugar
    • 6oz Butter
Heat oven to Gas 3, 160c or 325f & grease a baking tray

Mix flour & sugar in a bowl then rub in the butter

Knead well to form a smooth paste

Divide into 2 equal parts & shape and flatten each into 7" rounds about 1/2" thick OR roll the wole thing into a rectangle & cut into fingers

!!!!! the top with a fork all over and if doing the rounds mark into portions of 8 with a knife.

Bake for 30 mins until pale golden for the rounds
Bake for 20-25 mins for the fingers

Recipe from the Be-Ro book. Website here

Greenbee,we have found 92p - he's off on a long trek to Asda to see if there are any reduced things we can get so we should manage to get something out of it!

And we've not ate today so it's some food for just now (my stomach is killing me),tomorrows 3 meals and snacks then Friday breakfast, lunch - then we can go shopping.

    Penelope,that dosn't sound half bad!

I think I'll try a combo of all the ideas here, see what I can rustle up.

You've all been so much help.

    Thank you so,so much!

Good luck & a big ((hug)). Lots of us have been in this position before so understand. If you want have a look at some of the menu planning threads or the Grocery Challenge thread for some ideas etc so that next month, hopefully, it won't hapen again. I remember a week, not long after we were first married, when we lived on beans & bread with a tin of spaghetti as a midweek treat :p I wouldn't go to my Mum & tell her but we survived.

Please get something to eat soon & I hope that your DH finds some decent whoopsies in Asda :T
  • Carrot and coriander soup and rice pudding.

Soda bread (if you can get a bit of soda) warm with lashings of butter.

Grated carrot salad (apple, seeds, cabbage, oil if you can)

Spaghetti cooked then add big dollop of butter and chilli sauce and stir thru (nice too with just ketchup)

Johnny bakes, Flour, tsp butter, water to mix to stiff dough, fry in small dumpling size pieces until cooked ll waythrough, great with beans if you can stretch that far.

Carrot sticks with chilli and cream cheese dip.
