Parking Fine but I brought a ticket!!!

I brought a ticket and put it on the dashboard and then put a sun shade over the windows. Either the ticket fell down (which I doubt) or the parking attendant couldn't see it.

Anyway I have a £40 fine if I pay it within 14 days, which I am very  about because I brought a ticket. I read on another thread how someone successfully appealed because their ticket had fallen down as it had no adhesive. There is also CCTV in the car park which should hopefully show me buying the ticket as there was only a couple of cars in there because of the match.

Do you think I'll have any joy? I am determined to contest as it will prolong the time I have to pay the fine.

Any advise appreciated.

If you still have the ticket that will show what time you actually paid as would CCTV if there is it!

Where was the ticket when you got back to the car?

It doesn't actually show the time I paid but it shows the money I paid and the time it expired. So they'll be able to work it out from that.

I don't know where the ticket was because I got into the car, pulled the sun shield off then noticed the penalty notice on the windscreen. Then looked for the ticket which was caught up with the sunscreen.

Right. Well at least you have the ticket - even though it doesnt show the time of arrival it shows the departure time and the amount you paid so they will know from that what time you arrived.

I think many parking wardens have cameras now so they may have a picture that you can ask for in disputing it - although write in and send a photocopy of the ticket you have showing you paid etc and send it all recorded delivery and see what they say!

I have been reading the other thead mentioned which has given me hope. :)

I can email the dispute from the councils website and they also have a pdf of the form to fill out to obtain CCTV. I will leave that for a few days I think as I have to pay a £10 admin fee. I'm only going to send a photocopy of the ticket. Fingers crossed.

Knew I should have gone to Bluewater.
  • Normally, if you send a copy of the ticket to the council, they'll cancel the fine. Explain exactly what happened. Alternatively, give the council a call. They'll tell you what you need to do. Had this happen to me before... Don't bother with the CCTV. Your ticket will show that you had paid to park in the car park at the time the ticket was issued. Do this before spending any money on CCTV images, etc.

    Ditto.

I had an interesting conversation with a parking attendant a couple of years ago about this sort of situation. It was August (v hot) and I was 39 weeks pregnant on the way to midfwife appointment and I was prone to a whizzy head if I did too much. The only space I could find was the other side of the car park from the machine. I didn't have the energy to walk back to my car to display the ticket and returned to find a ticket being written for my car. I showed him my ticket, explained the situation and he agreed to rip up the ticket as he'd seen I'd paid. however, he did warn me that the offence I committed was still valid as the offence is "not displaying a valid ticket" rather than "buying a ticket", so you may need to spend the £10 on CCTV if council refuse to accept your photocopy of the ticket as you've not displayed it clearly...I assume you can claim that £10 back when you are proved right?

The parking warden should have recorded what time s/he issued the ticket on your car, so this will tie up with the expiry time on the ticket you purchased. Don't get too stressed, you have paid, and if you explain your case to the council I don't see why you shouldn't have the charge waived.

For what it's worth I managed to get a car park fine waived in Ealing once. I had parked where you purchased "time" in increments of 20 minutes for 20p - I put my only change in, I think a 50p piece. To my mind that's 50 minutes parking paid for. The ticket showed 50p paid but was timed for 40 minutes. I was back before 50 minutes had elapsed but there was a ticket on the car because I had only paid for two increments of 20 minutes. Ealing council immediately waived the fee when I wrote to them with the evidence.

This happened to me a while ago. I rang the council to say that I had bought a ticket and it had dropped out of sight. They accepted me sending it in and dropped the parking fine.

I doubt it. It's the admin fee they are allowed to charge to people wanting to see their personal data under the Data Protection Act.

I think I'll leave the CCTV for now. I will mention it in my letter though. ;) I am in my work uniform so they can't deny its me.
