Hello guys
Just a quick question I currently drive a Ibiza 1.9 non turbo and it has been a great loyal old car with low mileage. The bodywork of the car how ever is starting to show its age.
However 4 days ago I bought the 1998 version which has done 160000 miles with a better body for ... £90 .... the reason I got it for this price is because the girl who had it works at nightclubs and when the car didnt start one morning the AA worker said it was the injectors.
My dad has been round to see the engine and he doesnt think its the injectors but he can smell diesel. I also personally dont think the AA guy would be trying his best to diagnose the problem as he would be more intrested in towing the car.
The questions I would like to as is
If the car is repairable what do you think may be the fault casuing it not to start ?
Can I drop the non turbo engine into the better TDI body work if the engine is totally done ?
PS ( My own engine has only done 67000 miles.

I had a leaking fuel pump on my diesel car once. I think air was getting in and it wouldn't start. It had to go to a diesel specialist to get it sorted, but it wasn't that much to get fixed.
Glowplugs could need replacing. Have you changed the fuel filter?0 -
i would get a second opinion on the tdi engine before you remove it. it might be an idea to try and start it giving it a sniff of easy start or brake cleaner into the air intake. if it doesn't run on this then there might be something much more serious wrong with it.
you should be able to get a set of second hand injectors for this engine from a scrap yard no problem, any vw tdi of the same age will probably fit. im not sure of the size of socket for the turbo version but the non turbo needs a 27 mm injector socket to get them out....work permit granted!0 -
The injectors are not a problem I just thought Id ask ahead see if anyone knew what the problem might be but we will only get rid of the TDI engine if it is totally knackerd.
any cheap repairs will be done as my dad works will mechanics who will do it on the side. but I have a great realiable seat which is older and less miles we seem to think it may be drawing air to the diesel supply. His Heart Proved He Was A RedSuarez, SuarezWe Bought The Lad From AmsterdamWe Know He's Not a Chelsea Fan.Fernando Torres = El Judas0 -

Don't understand why you are on here. We can only guess, yet you seem to have a few folk that would probably be able to sort you out in a jiffy.
Changing the engine would be my last thought.0 -

you bought a car for £90..? wow,,it seems like a win win situation to me
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
I would expect this would increase your insurance as it's a modification.Gerrard_8_lfc wrote: »Can I drop the non turbo engine into the better TDI body work if the engine is totally done ?
I'd expect you can sell bits off the car and make back a fair bit more than £90 :cool:0 -
Hey guys an update.
We towed the car today after getting it but halfway we stopped and seen that the stopper after the 4 injector was off but it was lying on the gear box. we reconnected the stopped and gave the car a jump start and it fired up nicely.
nice car that works I was plesantly suprised.
all the car needs is 2 hand brake cables and a full service.
thanks for the help and views guys. His Heart Proved He Was A RedSuarez, SuarezWe Bought The Lad From AmsterdamWe Know He's Not a Chelsea Fan.Fernando Torres = El Judas0 -

what the leak off blanking plug? this shouldn't stop it from firing up....work permit granted!0 -
Well by jump starting the car and bleeding the injectors it fired up.
when we took it to my dads work the mechanic said it could have ben drawing air but it has worked and started everytime ive been driving it.
as you said rather strange to be honest.
Edit - yes the backflow plugs was off and that was were the diesel was coming from. His Heart Proved He Was A RedSuarez, SuarezWe Bought The Lad From AmsterdamWe Know He's Not a Chelsea Fan.Fernando Torres = El Judas0
