Would this send out a wireless signal from my pc to connect with my laptop

Hi, i am going on holiday in the summer for 4weeks and going to take my laptop with me, im staying with family and they have a pc with 2mb broadband.

i was going to buy a usb ethernet adaptor(i dont think they have a ethernet card in) so i could use the internet at the sametime as someone else using it. I was browsing ebay and came across this, and from what i understand, if i install it on the pc it will transmit a wireless signal and i can connect to it on my laptop. so i will be able to use the internet somewhere else out of there study/office thing.

Am i right in saying this?

Thankyou

It would have to be connected to the PC that is connected to the internet. You would then probably have to set up Internet connection sharing as well

Yes it would work. The box seems to have everything you need.

You could always buy them a wireless router as a nice present to protect them from those nasty hackers/crackers on the internet.

You can get network cards for about a fiver from ebuyer etc.. if they really don't have one.

I was referring to the inbuilt firewall/nat protection of routers, (compared to modems which have no protection), rather than wireless piggybackers.

I hate to say the obvious, but you didn't say whether your laptop had wireless built in?
(That ebay ad is for only 1 unit - it looks a bit misleading)

Yes, you'll only need the one for the other machine, I just wanted to make sure! It will operate fine in ad-hoc mode.
