Home insurance with business cover

Hi I don't know if anyone else has this problem?

It seems as if the insurance world is always years behind the game. The online quotation system never has my occupation listed (video production / editing)

Also, is there some broker or company that realises people work from home and require insurance for buildings / contents / and work related equipment in either the home or studio in the garden?

It takes hours filling in all the online forms only to find that if you have visitors to your business AND they have to walk through your home to access your studio/office your application just stalls.

Some companies tell you they will cover a small business at home until you tell them you do more than Admin and clerical work. It's very annoying and these companies are losing out of business.

So, does anyone know of a broker or company that can and will insure home, contents and business use of premises as outlined above?

BTW video editing is classed as a 'process' so it falls foul of the admin only rule.

Now if I wanted to invade a foreign country apparantly you can get insurance for that via Blair Associates...............:D

But all I want is home/busniess insurance.

There are plenty of companie that offer home business policies as there is a massive market for thm. Your best bet would be to speak to a good local broker (Not Swintons). They should be able to work out what you need, give you advice and give you some quotes without obligation.

The other option would be to look for adverts in any trade magazines or trade association websites. They often have companies either advertising or with links and their cover is often tailored to your industry (You may need extra cover eg if your computer loses it's memory and the film is lost etc)
  • Hi I work for your-move brokers. Prestige would be your best bet.

I had a lady that was a physctherapist and worked from home - rejected everywhere else for having the clients come through her own front door etc..

Prestige covered it and it wasn't too expensive at all.

They did add a clause on Theft stating it would only be covered if there were signs of forced or violent entry. Which is fair enough really if there are lots of people in and out of your home all the time.
Not really comping any more as too ill - but hoping to win £1000+ in 2017 in cash prizes - watch this space!
