might be a stupid question but had to ask, but in the last few days i've finally got round to opening a paypal account so i can sell a few things on ebay.
now i was about to verify the paypal account today but decided to check my emails first. for the first time i've had a phishing email saying from nigerian bank and money owe to me. which obviously is a load of rubbish.so deleted it as a phish. now just thought is it just a coinsidence getting this when not long opened a paypal account or is my paypal account at risk in anyway . thought i'd just ask before i start advertising stuff.
proberly worrying over nothing.
also are games consoles at risk from scams likke mobiles etc. as will be selling sons xbox360 and which postal service would you recommend for it
thanks:D

An Xbox is probably likely to attract scammers. If it sells for more than £39 you should send special delivery and only to the registered paypal address.
If you have a bidder that you are suspicious about, check what else they are bidding on via advanced search or goofbay.
Set your buyer preferences here.

Always check your paypal account for any payments - don't rely on e-mails that tell you that you have received a payment.
Funny you should mention about the Nigerian phishing scam - I remember having an e-mail not long after opening my account telling me that I needed to pay for a coin collection (that I had no knowledge of) or my account would be suspended! Don't know if this is just a coincidence but in any case I have not had any problems with the security of account details with Paypal.0 -
thank you have listed it now, was worried about scammers as it is a high value item. was only going to use special delivery for this item and have change my buyer preferences too. will deff. check paypal direct for shipping.

Hi myrtleturtle!
Recently sold other half's ps3, was a bit concerned about fraudsters so I'd recommend the following advice:
Make it clear that you will be recording the serial number prior to despatch (although don't put the number in the ad!). When you send a confirmation of posting message via ebay to the buyer, give the serial number then.
Take photos showing the serial number and only send it Guaranteed Special Delivery signed for by 9am or 1pm the following day - nothing else! Also add the tracking number to your ebay account.
Send it to the verified paypal address only (and in the UK!).
Interesting that you had phishing emails after opening your paypal account. I did too! could be a coincidence, but it seems strange as I hadn't given the email address out to anyone except ebay and paypal! Who knows?!
One last thing - remember that all genuine paypal emails will have your name on them and always check your paypal account directly to ascertain that buyers have paid!
Good luck!0 -
Just to say that taking the serial number will not defend you from any paypal claim. It will only help if you have to go to small claims court. Also emailing the buyer the serial number is still pretty risky as it gives the buyer time to change a serial number on an exchange unit.
To be covered by paypal seller protection all that needs to happen is when you receive payment look click on details in payments if it says seller protection eligible you will be covered. Send only to the paypal address. Paypal Seller protection Rules HERE
Good photos's and description will defend you from any SNAD claim, make sure any marks faults are mentioned photographed. As others have said send special delivery or courier equivalent.0 -
thank you both will take and keep a picture of serial number. because of fraud warning when i posted this item last night i added serial number to ad. but after seeing this have taken it off.will be sending it special delivery too. but will as you say check paypal account direct before posting.
not sold anything on there for a while is it likely payment will be held for 21day/pos feedback
