Ideas needed for a pamper box

Hi, one of my best friends is due her first baby at the start of next year.

I have bought lots of bits and pieces for the new arrival but wanted to make her up a nice box to give to her after the birth.

So far I only have bubble bath, candles and nail polish (I've no idea where I think she's going to get the time to paint her nails though haha!). Does anyone have any ideas of what else I can add in there, I'm just looking for some little bits and bobs.

Thanks in advance.

  • Maybe some little hair and face mask sachets? And how about hand cream, apparently new mums' hands are pretty raw with all the handwashing and washing hands etc..?

  • I have just done a very similar thing for my boyfriend's Mum for christmas. I have found some hot rocks (the massage stones that you heat up) for £2.99 in TJ Hughes to go in there. Some hand cream, bubble bath, an exfoliating mitt, some nivea lip care, bath salts and body butter with some bars of chocolate.

A little goes a long way if you arrange it nicely, maybe in a nice wicker basket with a bow?
  • Thinking back to when I had my baby recently and the things I would have liked included:
Facial wipes, hand cream, bubble bath, shower gel, mini bottles of wine, face mask, hair mask, lip gloss...

You sound like a great friend - it will be fab!!
  • You might feel uncomfortable at this suggestion or that it might be a bit weird if she's not a really close friend, BUT: if she's going to breastfeed, a tube of Lanolin (can get in boots and mothercare) may be a good idea. It is to relieve the pain of sore/red raw nipples (!!) and works wonders for breastfeeding mothers.

A very wise colleague of mine bought me 3 of those pretty pump dispenser bottles and filled them with hand cream. She told me to put one by every sink, so I wouldn't have to go looking for them when my hands were raw from all the washing - she was so right - best present I got, and they are still there now.
  • Baby sitting vouchers, make your own where you promise to babysit, for a night out, for going to the hair dressers, for having a nap, for doing some housework/shopping.

If you have a lush near you pop in and buy a really nice bath bomb, there's are really yummy.

Really cheeky but how about one of the post pregnancy exercise DVD? (I think Davina did one but I'm sure there are loads on the market).

Oh and find an advert for baby swimming lessons (I think they start at about 12 weeks), they are a really nice experience but a little expensive as a treat but this way you do the leg work for her.

See if you can find a local what on/things to do with kids under 5 guide (titles may have changed but you get the gist, try your local travel infor or NCT), I have one form the NCT which was brilliant, as it tells you which shops have baby changing facilities to all the outings suitable for under 5's. An absolute life saver.
  • Oh yes I agree with the hand cream, great idea. Neutrogena is good.

Nail varnish sounds lovely, maybe you could add a voucher for a nail painting session and you can do them for her.

A book or magazine might be nice too.

    And chocolate of course ;)

Thanks so much for your replies, lots of great ideas in there :T
  • As someone with a 6 day old, my biggest treat at the moment is a nightly foot rub from OH so I would say a nice foot cream and maybe footsoak.

I second the idea of Lanolin cream (the brand name is Lansinoh I think). It is a lifesaver if breast feeding.
