Buyer wants refund after nearly 3 weeks!!!

Options
I sold a phone a few weeks back, I think I mentioned it on here before, however, I left feedback a few days ago and the day after the buyer contacted me saying he wants his money back because the phone is not in prestine condition. The item is as it was described, works perfectly and I don't see why he wants a refund now.

I think he is going to try and threaten me with a neg because all this has come about as I left postivie feedback, he thinks his got the upper hand. He also wants me to return the money FIRST, should'nt it be the buyer who retursn the goods then the seller refunds?

Finally, it's been nearly 3 weeks since he bought it, why contact me after so long. I am in no mood to refund this seller, he was being rude as well, I would happily accept returns even if there was nothing wrong with the item itself and if postage was paid by the buyer. But rudeness is one thing I cannot accept!

What shall I do now? He has'nt started a dispute either? Should I just leave him to it?

Regards,

I understand what you're saying about him being rude, and annoying you.

However, if it were me, I would ask that he sends it back at his expense using either recorded delivery or special delivery. Then check that it's the same phone you sent to him (he may be just trying it on to get a phone to replace an old one).

When you're happy it's the one you sold, just refund him.

Other than that, just take the neg and follow up the feedback when it's left for you.

It's possible that it could have been a gift.
I always try to check anything I buy as quickly as possible but it can be difficult if it's for a birthday and you don't want to open it (say a shrink wrapped DVD).
I have myself asked for refunds after a few weeks so there CAN be a good explanation.

However there is no excuse for rudeness and he should definitely return the item first.

If the buyer wants a refund tell him/her that they will need to send the item back to you via Special Delivery before you will refund.

    Yep,

I would also ask the seller to return it via special delivery at their expense. If the item is as described then they shouldnt have a case at all. Check the phone when it is back to check it is the same - dont know whether or not you have the IMEI number?

It may be worth you saying you will refund it but he has to pay the postage costs of returning it to you otherwise he can do a dispute but that will also mean him returning the phone!

He should be paying for postage both ways! He is in the wrong, if he starts a dispute do I HAVE TO give him his money back? Say for example he says the phone is damaged, not as described etc etc, how would eBay know?

He could easily lie and get away with it? How long before he cannot open a dispute? was'nt it 60 days or something?
  • I think with Paypal it's something odd like 43 days.
